2024 Spring Orchard Expansion Application

2024 Spring Orchard Expansion Application

Seed St. Louis’ Vision and Mission
We envision a St. Louis Region with equitable access to fresh, healthy food.
We pursue this vision by empowering people and communities to grow food.

PURPOSE
This application is for Seed St. Louis Network Projects (gardens and/or orchards) to request to work with Seed St. Louis’ Giving Grove program to assist with consultation and design and/or to receive our recommended disease-resistant, locally adapted fruit and nut crops for your project.
Here at Seed St. Louis’s Giving Grove, we work hard to identify the best fruit and nut crops for St. Louis that require the least work with the most yield.

COST
The only cost associated with this process is the purchase cost of the plants themselves.  The costs vary from $15-$50 per plant based on the type of plant (e.g., tree, shrub, vine, cane fruit).  This charge covers the purchase, shipping, and nursery costs.  We will NOT charge for any staff time involved in meetings, consultation, design, transportation, or labor. There is also no continuing cost or membership cost of any kind required for this process.

SCHOLARSHIPS
We do not want the cost to prevent any group from being able to do the important work they are doing to strengthen their communities. We have funding for a limited number of scholarships to reduce the costs by 50% or 90% based on need. Once the final plan is agreed upon, you can apply for a scholarship by emailing or calling Dean to request a scholarship application. (contact information next page).

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be an existing Seed St. Louis network project, both gardens and existing orchards are eligible for this as long as they are in the network.  A map of established gardens and orchards can be found online:  https://seedstl.org/community-gardens
